Updated: Jul 7, 2022

Brand Photography consists of professional images that represent your business. These photos can be of you, your team, your products, your space and anything around you that represents the uniqueness of your business. Your branding photos make your brand more relatable, they help your target audience envision what working with you would be like and feel like.

PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

This particular blog post will focus on Product Photography. Presenting appealing product photos is so important, it can be the determining factor in wether or not a customer buys your product. Below I have put together some tips and steps that you can use to help you conduct and create your own product photo shoots right at home.

Follow these tips to help create your own product photo shoot:

  • Take advantage of your cell phone

  • Take clear eye-catching photos

Shoot in good lighting

Good lighting is so important when it comes to your photos. Whether you choose to use natural lighting or artificial lighting your photo quality will be determined by the amount of lighting in the photo.

  • Natural lighting – known as “soft light” Is great for e-commerce product shots. If you sell clothing and you need photos of a model wearing your items an outside photo shoot using natural lighting is a great way to advertise your product.

  • Artificial light – Light bulbs and bright lights are great for products that have a lot of detail that should be highlighted to attract a potential customer.

Consider your background

Determine the best background to be used for your product, do you like a white background or real world background?

  • White background – to capture a perfect white background with no corners or blemishes use a sweep. A sweep is a large bendable sheet of paper.

  • Real world background – Great for products that have a specific use or modeled by someone. When using a real world background always shoot in portrait mode. This setting blurs the background so the product is clear but not distracted by the background.

Shoot a Variety of Images

If you’re shooting clothing, capture your items on solid white backgrounds, mannequins as well as models. Have the clothing modeled on a person and capture different angles and poses of the product.

****I know this may seem like a lot but don’t become overwhelmed. Don’t feel like you have to apply all these steps at once and purchase a bunch of equipment. Start slow and gradually apply the steps to see what works for you and your business.****

Use tripod for photo consistency

If you have A few products holding your camera yourself is definitely an option, but as your business grows and you take more photos it can be difficult to hold a camera at the same angle. To ensure consistency with all your products you’ll definitely need a tripod. You can find an affordable one at a local store like five below or Walmart.

The perceived value of your products is impacted by the quality of your product photography so take your time.
